The number of institutions and enrollment in higher education continue their rapid growth, but the quality of this education remains uncertain. A small number of state subsidized institutions attract a thin top layer of talent from each year’s cohort. High selectivity of admission to these elite institutions provides a screen valued by potential employers. Domestic and foreign demand for the services of these few thousand students has created an inflated reputation of the overall quality of India’s higher education. The number of such graduates remains small relative to the population and the demands of India’s economy for educated manpower. Reliable estimates of value-added by higher education, beyond the screening value of admission to elite institutions, are needed to assess colleges and universities, and to guide educational policy. Graduate education the seed farm of higher education and scholarship continues in an alarming state of disarray with respect to both quality and quantity. Pressed by budgetary constraints, the government appears to have decided on profit-oriented privatization of higher education as the solution. Political and business classes, with significant overlap between the two, see higher education as a source of lucrative private returns on investment. There is little theoretical or empirical evidence that supports the prospects of success of a for-profit model in building quality higher education. The influence of online distance learning and digital skills on digital literacy among university students post covid-19

Online distance learning policies were formulated and implemented among some Malaysian universities long ago, but their value emerged since COVID- 19. Emanating from the diffusion of innovation theory, this study examined the perception of higher education students on the influence and relationship between six independent variables (compatibility, observability, relative advantage, complexity, trialability, and digital skills) and one dependent variable (digital literacy). A total of 524 respondents were sampled, comprising students from six public and private Malaysian universities. The findings from the correlation analysis show a significant positive relationship between the six independent variables and the dependent variable. Meanwhile, in the regression analysis, three of the independent variables (observability, trialability, and digital skill) have a significant and positive effect on digital literacy. This study placed the diffusion of innovation in a specific context that supports designing online distance learning and digital literacy policies

Psychometric factors and undergraduate students’ attitudes towards research: evidence from vietnam

Scientific research is an extremely important element in higher education. Nearly all undergraduate students at the university are required to take research courses in the formation process. Therefore, the current paper aims to explore Vietnamese undergraduate students’ attitudes towards research. To measure attitudes towards research, the study used Papanastasiou’s Revised Attitude Towards Research (R-ATR) scale (2014). This psychometric proprieties scale consisted of 13 items with three factors: research usefulness (4 items), research anxiety (5 items), and positive research predispositions (4 items). Data were collected by a questionnaire survey on a convenient sample of 520 undergraduate students from six universities in Vietnam. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that the students’ attitudes were high in the factor of research usefulness and positive research predispositions. However, in the factor of anxiety, the attitudes were moderate. In addition, the public undergraduate students had significantly more positive attitudes towards research than the private undergraduate students. Similarly significant results were found for gender, year of study, and research experience.
